What is the EU cash payment limit?

Late last month, the European Union introduced new cash payment limits of €7,000 (US$7,645). The cap is lower in some member states of the EU, such as €1,000 in France and Italy. The region also imposes restrictions on anonymous crypto asset transfers over €1,000.

Is it illegal to pay 1000 euros in cash in France?

According to several reports, France has made it illegal to pay over 1,000 euros in cash. As per the official website of "Banque De France", 1,000 euros is the maximum cash payment that can be made by individuals resident in France for tax purposes, or for professional activity.

How much cash can you pay in France?

From September 1 onwards, residents in France will not be allowed to make payments of more than 1,000 euros in cash. Until now, payments in cash were allowed up to an amount of 3,000 euros. In the case of visitors and non-residents the limit is much higher, but will still be reduced significantly down to 10,000 euros from the previous 15,000 limit.
